About this dataset

GeoJSON lines for terrestrial fiber routes — a deduplicated, IXP-cross-validated subset of the estimated routes with per-route confidence levels.

Download the fiber routes GeoJSON dataset: 6,324 deduplicated terrestrial fiber line routes with degenerate geometry removed, each scored by confidence (high / medium / low) based on whether its endpoints match known internet exchange points in the IXP registry.

How to download

  1. 1 Download the hosted GeoJSON file directly.
  2. 2 Inspect the line layer in GeoDataViewer Studio.
  3. 3 Filter by the confidence property (high / medium / low) for route-strength context.
  4. 4 Compare it with the estimated fiber and backbone pages for broader coverage context.

FAQ

What is the fiber routes GeoJSON dataset?

It is a line dataset of terrestrial fiber routes: a cleaned and deduplicated subset of the estimated fiber routes, with degenerate geometry removed and every route scored for confidence against the IXP registry.

How were the routes cross-validated?

Each route's endpoints were matched against known internet exchange points in the hosted IXP registry. Routes with both endpoints matching a known IXP are scored high confidence, routes with one matching endpoint are medium, and the rest are low.

How does this differ from the estimated fiber routes dataset?

The verified dataset removes duplicate and degenerate geometry from the estimated dataset and adds a confidence property, while the estimated dataset retains the full, unprocessed route set for broad coverage analysis.
